The Fastnet Tour - West Cork
For many generations the majestic and isolated Fastnet Rock has fired the imaginations of onlookers, both locals and visitors alike. For others, the Fastnet was known as Ireland's Teardrop as it was the last part of Ireland seen by thousands of Irish emigrants as they sailed away to the New World, most of them never to return again.
The Fastnet Rock Tour is a day trip that will bring you first, to the Fastnet Exhibition and multimedia display in the Cape Clear & Fastnet Rock Heritage Centre on Cape Clear Island. This will allow time to see the Fastnet Rock Memorials on Cape Clear Island and to the view the Rock from the Island itself. The tour later circumnavigates the rock to view it from all sides at close quarters.
See us on Facebook for our latest updates and recent wildlife sightings.
Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises and Basking Sharks
West Cork is also renowned for its whale and dolphin sightings and your trip to the Fastnet brings you though some of the best areas for sighting these magnificent creatures. The skippers will make detours to give you the best possible views when they are in the vicinity.
Visit the Island Tourist Office in North Harbour for local crafts & books, marked trails and other attractions. Selection of cafes/restaurants & pubs available.
Your safety is our concern - fine weather restriction
The Fastnet Rock Lighthouse is located in open sea and even during the summer sea conditions can be quite choppy. This is why we operate in fine weather only and only take bookings from 72-48 hours in advance, according to the weather forecast. You will find the Fastnet forecast here (link to Fastnet Forecast)
You will be spending from 2.5 to 3 hours at sea and Cape Clear Island is an ideal stopping off point to refresh yourself and visit the Fastnet Display. There are restaurants, pubs, marked trails and many other facilities available.
